Astrocartography
Clarisse Monahan, Astrologer
We all know our astrological signs: he’s a dreamy Pisces; she’s a flighty Gemini. Usually, we check on these cosmic indicators when we’ve just started to date someone. The wise ones will stay away from those with whom we are astrologically incompatible, while the rest of us will realise, half-a-decade later, that we shouldn't have wasted our mid 20s with that Scorpio.
The point here is that we tend to use astrology for guidance on important things in our life, like compatibility between significant others. We may also mobilise it to predict when challenging and beneficial times are approaching. Or we might lean on the Stars to get an answer to a very specific question–will I sell this flat of mine by the end of summer or will it languish on the market forever, like a sad pair of sensible orthopaedic sandals? (This astrological practice of asking and answering is called hoary, by the way).
This is all to say that astrology has many different applications and modalities. But perhaps the most exciting form of star-gazing at the moment is called astro-cartography, which combines astrology with geography to ascertain power places for you to live and thrive.
“Cartography” means map-making. And “astro-” is a prefix related to “stars.” Think of astrocartography, then, as a personalised star-map, which points to auspicious locations for relationships, career, home, and personal development. Just as we check on someone’s sign to see if they are compatible with us, we can also do the same with places. Is London right for my career? Is Tokyo good for romance?
Astro-cartography is able to answer these questions by taking your birth chart and looking at where planets were in the sky the moment you were born. Based on these planetary positions, it is then able to determine hot-spots for you. If you’re looking for lasting love, an astro-cartographer (someone who reads and interprets your maps) can locate places conducive to that. What about somewhere to increase your passion for work? That can be figured out, too.
So, let’s take a brief example to see how all this might work. We know that Venus is the planet of love. Now imagine that you set up a consultation with an astro-cartographer and say: “I’m interested in places to find new romance–I’ve just wasted my mid 20s with a Scorpio.”
After looking at your star-map, your astro-cartographer might say: “Paris would be great for you next month for a weekend stay: not only do you have your Venus line running through it, but you also have Venus transiting the Partnerships zone of your birth chart then.”
Next step: book a trip to Paris and open your heart (tip: stay at Hotel Amour in Pigalle while you’re there…very cute).
Ultimately, astro-cartography can be used in a variety of ways: short-term travel plans and vacations, permanent re-locations, or remote activations (where you align with and enliven the energy of an auspicious geographic area for you by studying its culture, history, or language from afar).
In the end, astro-cartography takes astrology to a new level by making it more mobile and fun. I like to think of it as a “Tinder for Places” in that it matches you up to locations that cosmically align with your needs. For more information on the topic, you can reach out here.
And, as always, stay starry-eyed.
